Unis Schedule Pickup

7th and 8th Grade

7th and 8th grade students need to report on Monday, August 25th at the following times to pick up schedules.

7th Grade – 10:30 AM

8th Grade – 11:30 AM

6th Grade

6th grade orientation will be held on Thursday, August 21st from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Students must attend orientation to receive their schedules.

All students must bring the following to be eligible to receive their schedules:

  • physical forms (6th grade only)
  • completed emergency card
  • signed concussion form
  • free and reduced lunch form if needed
  • book fines from previous school year if needed

McU Summer Learn Course Reminders

Have you been remembering to complete your Summer Learn Course? Do you need a little extra help? Keep reading for some extra information!

McU Summer Learn course continues throughout the summer. All incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders should be working on this course over the summer.  The completed course will be their first grades of the 2014-2015 school year. Students who are assigned to and complete the following summer school programs are excused from completing this course: Blended Learning and ESL.

We are excited to see students who have visited the media center to work on the program. Just a reminder, the media center is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 11-2. Ms. Abadeh is available each day to provide support to students.  The flyer below provides more information and directions for logging in to iLearn.

McU Begins Digital Summer Learn Course!

McCollough-Unis students received information today about our new summer learning course through Dearborn Schools’ online learning classroom called iLearn.

All incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will complete this course over the summer and the completed course will be their first grades of the 2014-2015 school year.

Students who are assigned to and complete the following summer school programs are excused from completing this course: Blended Learning and ESL.

The Write Stuff

McCollough-Unis Journalism students have started a website to showcase their writing skills. Journalism teacher, April Kincaid, says that the page was designed to highlight the phenomenal writing of the journalism students. McU Journalism students currently hold the awards from the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association for 1st place writing in a feature story for a middle school and 3rd place photography in a middle school.

Dearborn’s Got Talent! May 13th at 6:30pm

Talented high school students from across Dearborn will compete for top honors at the first-ever “Dearborn’s Got Talent!” show on Tuesday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.Tickets are on sale now! McU Students Take On Washington DC!

Last week, a group of 7th and 8th grade students from McCollough-Unis were able to travel to Washington D.C. thanks to the hard work of April Kincaid, trip coordinator and journalism teacher at McU.

“It was a great trip…an educational experience for our students and a lot of fun,” said Kincaid. This trip also marked the first time McU students have gone on a school trip out of state aside from the 8th grade trips to Cedar Point.

McU gets STEM Certified!

On Wednesday, March 26th, 2014, McCollough-Unis will become the first traditional public school in the Midwest to become STEM Certified thanks to a partnership with

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and often refers to an approach in teaching that concentrates instruction in those four areas. McCollough-Unis is being recognized for their commitment to STEM education because of their completion of a rigorous STEM focused series of events, programs, and professional development as part of the STEM certification process.

There will be a variety of activities for students during the school day on Wednesday, March 26th at McU to celebrate this achievement including a Gold Medal Science Fair, an Atmospheric Science STEM Theater show, a STEM career speech by meteorologist and MIT graduate, Andrew Humphrey, and the presentation of the STEM Certificate.

There will also be a Family Fun Science Night from 4:00 to 6:00 PM that evening.
