Mathematics and Language Arts

In June of 2010, the Michigan State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards as the new standards for K-12 Mathematics and Language Arts. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce.

If you would like more information about the Common Core State Standards, the official website is and they have an extensive FAQ page. The Michigan Department of Education also has a Common Core Standards information page.
