DEARBORN— NIA funded Michigan Center for Contextual Factors in Alzheimer’s Disease (MCCFAD) in partnership with LAHC- Leaders Advancing & Helping Communities will hold a Community Health Fair on Thursday, November 7, 2019, in Dearborn. The event is open and free to the public.
This community health fair, held at the new LAHC headquarters, will connect local residents with vital services and providers in the area. Available services include free health screenings, flu shots, body mass index (BMI) measurements, blood pressure checks, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with healthcare professionals about mental health, stress management, smoking cessation, safe medication disposal, and take part in fitness and cooking demonstrations, to name a few. This event will also feature information from the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as getting your estate in order and support services for caregivers. Refreshments and giveaways will be provided.
The Michigan Center for Contextual Factors in Alzheimer’s Disease (MCCFAD) is housed at the University of Michigan and capitalizes on expertise from existing programs to present the latest information on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). According to Dr. Kristine Ajrouch, the center’s long-term goal is to facilitate “the elimination of ADRD disparities through research findings, mentorship, community links, and increased numbers of behavioral and social scientists from underrepresented backgrounds.” In the tradition of research on minority aging, research at the Center will address unique and specific issues of racial/ethnic minorities, with an emphasis on African Americans, Arab Americans and Latinos.
LAHC- Leaders Advancing & Helping Communities is a 501(c) 3 non-profit human services organization dedicated to the provision of social services in Southeastern Michigan. The mission of the LAHC is to empower communities, one family at a time, by advancing the social, educational, health and economic and well-being of Michigan residents.
